STEFANIA CATASTINI

Stefania Catastini was born on September 17, 1971, in Fucecchio (FI), Italy. In 1998 she received her master's degree from University of Florence, where she studied architecture. From 2003 to 2013 she worked as external partner for LDA.iMdA architetti associati, architecture firm of which she is an active partner since 2013.

CASA VERDE young women's care home for mental health problems

The project* aims to recover and integrate an old site already used as an orphanage built on a portion of a hilly area next to the old centre of San Miniato. The "CASA VERDE" project, so called because of his historically/social value (CASA/home / orphanage – VERDE/Green / built in a forest of holm oaks), is a search to found links:
1_ with the woods, through the study of the color leves shades in different seasons;
2_ with the "guests Girls" by editing their graphic works on the glass facade;
3_ with the city by reusing "vicoli carbonai" (useful and necessary for the maintenance of the hillside);
4_ with the natural light (main staircase);
5_with the centuries-old cypress trees next to the structure;
6_with art through the artist Mercury-S17S71 painting the faces of the "guests" has created a collection of contemporary artworks.

CASA VERDE has recently received an honorable mention at The Plan Award 2017 and has won a Special Prize at the tenth edition of Dedalo Minosse International Prize. It was also published online on architettura-italiana.com (July 2017).
