Sustainable Mountain Architecture (SMA) Exhibition

In a two month long “Climate + Change” exhibition organized by International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), together with the team Arch i (Delhi based) we (SMA, Kathmandu based) organized the “Sustainable Mountain Architecture” Exhibition in Kathmandu Nepal. The exhibition focused on sustainable ways of building in the mountains above 1000 meters of the Himalayan region. The first part exhibited works of Dutch architect Anne Feenstra in Afganistan and India. The second part of the exhibit focused on a collection of works in the mountain regions of Nepal that are exemplary of sustainable practice in the country.

I was particularly responsible for the second part “The Nepali Wall”. It involved research and compilation of projects that are sustainable or had explored components of sustainability. The purpose of the exhibit was to share knowledge and inspire common people to learn and adopt more sustainable techniques for building.

In addition, we conducted the “Get your hands dirty” workshop showcasing techniques of insulation and rammed earth in building construction. Also a series of selected architect’s presentation and discussion had been carried out on sustainable design and practice.
